CASE 11 / EXECUTIVE DECISION SUPPORT 2 MIN READ

Show leaders where
a decision is needed.

Portfolio reviews relied on presentation packs exceeding 50 slides. I designed a dashboard around the questions executives needed to answer and defined the trusted sources behind it, while the technical team built the solution.

AT A GLANCE

Reporting capability adopted

The mandate

Make portfolio reporting useful during an executive review.

My contribution

Design the decision views and define trusted data sources.

The result

A dashboard used as the monthly executive reporting layer.

01 / THE CHALLENGE

The problem to solve.

A long pack could describe activity without making the next decision obvious. Separate reports also obscured which numbers leaders could trust and which unresolved constraints needed their intervention.

THE DELIVERY LOGIC ILLUSTRATIVE MODEL

01ResultsWhere are outcomes deviating?
02BlockersWhat needs intervention, and by whom?
03ResourcesWhich commitments need capacity?

02 / KEY DECISIONS

Where I focused.

The central trade-off

Comprehensive status packs provided detail but obscured intervention points. The dashboard concentrated on deviations, blockers and resource demand, with trusted sources behind each view.

  1. 01

    Start from the executive questions.

Organized the dashboard around business-result deviations, blockers with accountable owners, and resource demand. Each view supported a distinct management decision.

  2. 02

    Define the information contract.

Specified the trusted data sources and the meaning of the measures. This made reporting design a governance task as well as a technical delivery.

  3. 03

Use the product in the review.

Brought live portfolio evidence into the monthly executive discussion. The reporting layer connected a deviation to its owner and the decision needed next.

03 / THE OUTCOME

What changed.

  • Three decision-oriented views replaced reliance on fragmented presentation packs.
  • The dashboard became part of the monthly executive reporting process.
  • Business results, blockers and resource needs could be discussed through a common view.

04 / MY ACCOUNTABILITY

A clear line of ownership.

I designed the dashboard and defined trusted data sources, and I led executive reporting. The technical lead owned architecture and the development team implemented it. I do not claim personal software authorship or a measured reduction in executive decision time.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

A dashboard earns its place when it helps someone make the next decision.
